What is News Item ?

    a particular piece of news, usually from a journalistic source.

Then, with the hope of more vast understanding, news item has three keywords :
  1. Factual and Actual
  2. Detail
  3. Newsworthy
  4. Informartive.
So, with those keywords, we can conclude that News Item is :

    "A factual and actual text which includes detail information about an event or phenomenon that is characterized by its property of newsworthy and informative"

 What is the Structure of News Item?

News item is one form of specialization from exposition text and has its own structure, such as :
  • main event adalah paragraf yang berisi tentang ringkasan dari suatu peristiwa, alias kejadian penting yang menjadi highlight untuk disampaikan pada pembaca. 
                News Item text has to be informative with the consideration of the worth of the news thal will be delivered. The infromation must have a significant effect to the readers with the most simple and straightforward title. A news of amendment of the constitutional is more important than the advertisement or promotion of one brand. 
  • background event ini berisi latar belakang peristiwa yang terjadi. Mulai dari apa dan siapa saja yang terlibat, di mana, kapan, mengapa, serta bagaimana peristiwa tersebut bisa terjadi.
                    In this section, information is delivered in a detail and structured way. The main characteristics of News Item is detailed and factual, so to support those, the infromation is explained with the main ideas from using the technique of 5W1H (What, When, Where, When, Why and How). This way the every information will accomapnied with data, hence convincing the readers about the worth of the news.  
  • resource of information is a part that includes the testimony of witnesses and evidence of the real events
                    The last part finishes the last characteristics of news item and gives the evidences needed to add new information from witnesses. In this section, the evidence usually in the forms of quotes or  images attachment. With this source of informaton, news item text is likely to be from a trusted source and the previous information can be concluded with a line of words.

What is the Language Features in News Items?

News item text as one kind of exposition text, it has the similar language features with exposition text such as :

  • Using simple past tense; if used in a sentence that explaining 5W1H of the events / phenomenon.

  • Using simple present tense; if used in a sentence that has a fact that is still happening or still in the form of fact
  • using saying verbs
  • using action verbs
  • using adverbs; time, place and manner
